<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;">Neil Costa
is the minister for <a href="http://www.visitgibraltar.gi/" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">tourism
and public transport in Gibraltar</span></a> and he seems to be on quite some
mission to encourage increased numbers of visitors to the famous Rock. The New
Statesman recently quoted Costa as saying, ‘There are 180 visits scheduled to
Gibraltar from cruise ships, and the ships are getting bigger…Some ships will
have up to 3,000 passengers on board. That’s effectively a 10per cent boost to
[Gibraltar’s] population, in a single day – except one day this year we had four
ships in one day’. All of this emphasis on increased tourism has led some
people to question why on earth a place as small as Gibraltar – under 3 square
miles in size - would need to drive tourism sales when it already receives a
relatively large proportion of visitors. The answer, according to Costa,
is that few of their visitors are staying the night. The Gibraltar tourist
board particularly wish to attract visitors from the UK who come for a weekend
break, rather than just a day visit. At the same time, Costa is careful to
point out that 3,000 visitors descending en masse to Gibraltar’s beaches may be
a challenge to accommodate. It seems the Gibraltar tourism board wants its cake
and to eat it, too. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;"><br /></span><br />
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";"><span style="font-size: small;">Cruising</span></span></h2>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;">All of this
tourism talk is not the first time that Gibraltar has openly voiced its desire
for increased tourism: i<a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19544299" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">n 2012 the tourist board declared that it would be equipping
many of its attractions with QR</span></a> (quick response) barcodes that could
be scanned by mobile phones and offer immediate links to informative webpages
as sightseers walked Gibraltar’s streets. With tourism as one of Gibraltar’s
main sources of income, it’s little wonder they are so keen to enlist as many
visitors as possible. However, as Neil Costa pointed out, the visitors that
Gibraltar receives from cruise ships is often one of their largest markets: in
2012, 173 cruise ships glided their way into Gibraltar's port. It comes as
little surprise that a small rock in the Mediterranean that has English as its
official language, hot weather and beautiful scenery attracts many UK visitors
on daytime trips, or as a stop-off while cruising the Med. On many cruise
liners its a good idea - and actively encouraged - to pre-book onshore
excursions before arrival. This often means visitors get better variety than
trying to work out different deals once on land. As <a href="http://www.planetcruise.co.uk/cruise-destinations/mediterranean" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">Planet Cruise</span></a> states, 'Cruise lines typically offer a
number of different shore tours to choose and for any budget and physical
activity level'. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;"><br /></span><br />
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";"><span style="font-size: small;">Getting
around The Rock - taxi drivers you can trust</span></span></h2>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;">Taxi
drivers are often astute observers and canny businessmen, and it didn’t take
long for taxi drivers on Gibraltar to work out that driving visitors to and
from the airport or the harbour was nowhere near as lucrative as driving
travellers around the tiny territory, and showing them the whole array of
beautiful sights. Of course, it usually doesn’t take governing bodies very long
to work out when a fiddle is taking place and they swiftly changed licensing
laws that prevented taxi drivers from stepping on tour guide toes. What’s a
little tour guiding between friends, anyway? Well, until the taxi
association really clamped down on drivers by having their cars fitted with a
special kind of satnav that informs the association precisely where the cab had
been, and how frequently it had arrived at the airport. The new telematics
technology is very helpful for tour operators on the tiny island, but has
prevented taxi drivers from gaining extra money as guides. To offset this, the
taxi association has been able to offer drivers inside information based on
their vehicle usage – such as things like braking and fuel consumption – to
save money in the long-run. This all means that visitors can be assured that if
they jump in a taxi cab they will be driven directly to their required
destination with no encouragement to sightsee en route.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";"><span style="font-size: small;">The
Future of Gibraltar’s tourism</span></span></h2>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;">With
tourism as Gibraltar’s major source of income, it’s little wonder they’re vocal
about encouraging its growth. However, it seems unreasonable for them to worry:
cruise ship numbers remain constant every year, with <a href="http://www.gibraltarport.com/cruise/schedules" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">an
anticipated 283,870 visitors from 179 cruise ships</span></a> alone. </span><br />

<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Are you looking forward to the warmer months where you can
already feel your skin bronzing with the summer rays? Do not complicate
yourself in 2014 and simply look no further than the Iberian Peninsula.
Gibraltar and southern Spain offer a wide variety of options which appeals to
all different types of clients, be it the beach enthusiast or the tapas
lover. With a number of possible airline connections from the UK
including Heathrow, Manchester and Gatwick. Gibraltar is the ideal
Mediterranean destination which offers much more than you would actually
imagine.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><br /></span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Lying at the entrance to the Mediterranean, Gibraltar is the
ideal summer destination. Although the Barbary macaques are Gibraltar’s
emblem, there really is more to what has been shown on television
recently. From brisk walks through Alameda Botanical gardens to enjoying
an evening dinner at Catalan Bay, there really are endless possibilities which
you can combine whilst in Gibraltar.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><br /></span></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">A typical summer day surrounded by locals living the
Gibraltarian ambience would be to have breakfast at Casemates Square whilst
enjoying the buzz of people walking through to Main street and the local fish
market. Soon after, enjoy Gibraltar’s VAT free prices at local Main
Street shops followed by a wine and tapas tasting which lies adjacent to Main
Street at Chatham Counterguard. In the afternoon relax in any of
Gibraltar’s beaches, there are a few to choose from, just jump on any blue
bus. In the evening get back to your hotel, quick shower and jump back
straight to Casemates or Ocean Village in the evening where you are sure to
live a wonderful summer experience at the hands of the Gibraltarian people.</span></div>

<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Travel agents will always show the typical resort activities
such as the Rock Tours and dolphin trips, which are also a must! However to
live the local experience you must venture through the streets and find how the
many different cultures unite to create a destination which welcomes anyone and
everyone.</span></div>

<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">My Tip this week: Make sure to prolong your stay to around 4
days, in which you will be able to enjoy absolutely everything from tours in
Morocco to the bodegas in Spain.</span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">It appears that November in the Iberian Peninsula is
changing when it relates to weather. Last Saturday saw a group of Blands
Travel clients and staff members visit a truly iconic town of Benaojan,
situated within the mountainous region of Ronda, Benaojan is famously known for
its oaks, pastures rainfed by the Mediterranean and sheep industry. Its cuisine
is highlighted by the sausages and other pork products and dried fruits.
For this same reason we decided to visit this wonderful town in Spain. We
left Gibraltar at early day and made our way up in our cosy 26 seater bus which
comfortably accommodated our group, stopping on the way in Estepona for a
well-deserved early breakfast. As you would expect from any Spanish
traditional bar, local produce made our breakfast that extra special, toasted
fresh bread from the day and “Manteca Colorada” traditional Red butter from the
pigs most juicy parts!</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">After breakfast we made the way up to town, one important
fact you may ought to know is the fact that there are 192 bends along the road
to Ronda! That is astonishing, the views are spectacular and if you are
into orienteering and birdwatching, this is truly a haven for these
practices. After an hour, we finally arrived into what seemed a ghost

and <span style="color: black;">others think "home of the baker."
It is precisely to do with baking that we were enlightened to visit. Our
trip had a 11:45 visit to Charcuteria el Cerdito Andaluz, here you can buy the
best cuts of meats. We were amazed to see the sheer amount of meats at
affordable prices on display, Christmas is round the corner, and for this same
reason the group started to invest heavily in buying the best cuts of
meat. Just on a side note, Gibraltarians love their meat when it comes to
Christmas!<o:p></o:p></span></span></span></div>

<span style="background: white; color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">A short while later, the group finished buying
their traditional Spanish Ham and other meats and decided it was time for a
stop at one of the bars if not the only bar in the town of Benaojan. A
nice glass of wine from Ronda was just lovely as we sat in the bars terrace,
the sunshine gazing through along with a bunch of nice mates made midday the
best time of day. Soon after and with no time to spare, Lunch was booked
in for 14:00 at The Muelle Restaurant, a lovely old building transformed into a
exquisite restaurant. I will just comment that the group entered the
restaurant at 14:00…. And left at 17:30… that only shows that the food along
with its wine were spectacular. We were greeted with entrees of Bellota Ham and
Payoyo cheese followed by sirloin steaks and other cuts of beef which were
devoured by the group in a matter of 15 silent minutes! I hardly ever see
service and food at this level in more touristic hotspots along the Costa del
Sol. El Muelle restaurant is a must in town and I would guarantee you
will leave with a huge smile on your face and a button unloosed on your
trousers.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Over the last few weeks major Television network Channel 5
has aired a real life story documentary about Gibraltar. The series
focused on Gibraltar’s tourism industry and how our united community make this
destination a paradise to many. Our team at Blands Travel are extremely
interested in receiving your comments on the series and for this same reason I
have decided to write this post and write about the added features that you may
have not seen on the documentary.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Gibraltar offers much more than what was shown on the
programme, special emphasis was given on the world renowned Barbary Macaques,
the VAT products and the nice weather. I have prepared four different
activities that can be carried out in Gibraltar. The programme has
certainly been positive to Gibraltar and its actual Destination image, however,
I would like to highlight that other features make this holiday
destination more appealing.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"> </span></o:p></div>

<o:p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Investment in Gibraltar’s historical tourist sites mean that
the Rock tour is a must when visiting Gibraltar. Join us and jump aboard
our buses to live an experience which captures history and our renowned apes
which have long been an iconic feature to Gibraltar. Sites such as St Michaels
cave with its fantastic auditorium, is an emblem feature as you gaze at the
fantastic stalactites which display this wonderful cave. Visit Apes Den,
see the Barbary macaques in their natural habitat, they roam the den freely and
you will be able to see them up-close. </span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Have you ever wondered how glass is made? Have you only seen
this on the Discovery Channel? Well if you come to Gibraltar, visiting the
Glass Factory is a must. A short tour of glass making captures the essence of
glass making. The glass factory houses their own production team and you
can easily become involved with the team as you may even try and make your own
wine glass. The Factory is located in Casemates Square just beside the
Tourist Information Office. </span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">If nature is of interest… join us on a botanical tour of
Gibraltar’s Alameda Botanical Gardens. These gardens feature a wide array
of flora and fauna which is truly fantastic. Recent renovations of the
gardens have enlightened the many different features on display, this can be
complimented by a tour of the Wildlife Park which houses many different
animals.</span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Many different places in Gibraltar offer the opportunity of
wine tasting followed by tapas, on a warm evening in September, the Wine
festival is held at Chatham Counterguard. If you are a wine enthusiast
and enjoy tapas this festival is fantastic. Along with the festival, the
Rock Hotel offers a similar evening at the Khaima Marquee, a wonderful Moroccan
Marquee set up in the hotels gardens. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">There are many other features that make Gibraltar a truly
wonderful destination to visit. If you are planning on visiting Gibraltar
in 2014, let us know and we can prepare an itinerary for your visit. </span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
As 2012 closes to an end, many may believe that the Mayans were
right after all in predicting the end of the world. We don’t, we believe that 2013 will bring an
end to the economic downturn or at least the beginning of a positive and
prosperous year. Blands Travel have some
new products which can be seen as enhancement to experiencing Gibraltar, Spain
and Morocco. Not only do we cater for
the original Rock Tours and our other excursions, this New Year call on the
Blands Travel team to organise that special experience which will certainly make
you think of our proximity when it comes to adventure or leisure. This region has too much to offer for people
to travel to far places in the world to experience the same this region already
is enriched with.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Just as a taster, we can organise kite surfing in Tarifa to paint balling in Sotogrande, doom buggies to horse-riding gazing at the panoramic
backdrop of Gibraltar. Camel riding to
cooking your own Moroccan cuisine in Fez, Morocco. The possibilities are endless; my favourite
has to be spending the night in your own self equipped tents which really are comfortable
in the middle of the Saharan Dessert, have you ever thought of that?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I am to blame for not having written sooner… the Weekly Traveller
really needs to pull up his socks when it comes to blogging, well enough about
that… have a look at my top 10 travel adventures we would like to organise for
you guys in the new year, but what the heck let’s start by least exciting to
the most anticipated experience:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b>10. Mountain Biking </b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b> <o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Sometimes there are just certain Routes you have to take!
Why not enjoy the pleasure of bike riding and unrivalled routes… although at
number 10, this certainly is an experience as you pace yourself through some
routes which you wouldn't call on this region.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b>9. Gibraltar’s World War II Tunnel networks. <o:p></o:p></b></div>

<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
A must do while you are in Gibraltar, if you reside in Gib,
then come and visit this magnificent network of tunnels and gather a taste of
our historic heritage, the tunnels allow you the ability to experience a taste
of life for the soldiers of this ‘garrison in the dark'.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b><br /></b></div>

<b>8. Quads in Tarifa. <o:p></o:p></b></div>

friends. Having various organised quad routes we are looking to thrill you

Gibraltar's has over 30 wrecks to explore; Gibraltar's
diving gives another dimension to the adventurer. Europa Reef is a well-known point for divers
and offers the more adventurous underwater explorer the chance to find caves,
drop offs and to see actual anchors of Phoenician and Roman ships that still
remain on the sea bed. <o:p></o:p></div>

<b>5. Windsurfing</b></div>

activity.<o:p></o:p></div>

ride on our hot air balloon flight from La Palmeraie in the north-east corner of the city. As you fly over villages you will have superb
panoramic views across the palm grove against the backdrop of the breath-taking Atlas
Mountains. This has to go in an number 4
simply because the top three are simply superb.
However, I would advise doing this next time you travel to Morocco.<o:p></o:p></div>

<b><br /></b></div>

<b>3. Camel Treks in the Sahara <o:p></o:p></b></div>

Visiting the Sahara Dessert is a once in a lifetime
experience. Envisage riding a camel through the Sahara with nothing around you
and no sound apart from the footsteps of the camel on the soft sand. The sky is
clear in the day and packed with millions of bright stars at night and a truly
peaceful experience, rarely known to most of the busy western world.<o:p></o:p></div>

<b>2. Sahara Desert Adventures </b></div>

Travel through the Sahara like you get to see in films. Get
a group together for this as the bedroom tents fits up to three single beds or
one large king size bed with the comfort of a hotel room. Each of the tents is
linked to each other by smaller compartments which hold facilities such as
hot shower, WC and a sink. The restaurant tent has four tables and the whole
camp is covered by colourful Berber carpets and cushions.<o:p></o:p></div>

If you have ever dreamed of such a thing... why not try
it.... After all you only live once... you will feel so upbeat you will want to
dive again. We respect that you may want to start small... therefore why not
try a tandem jump, where without an extensive prior training, you will live an
exciting experience, connected to a highly qualified instructor. I have placed Skydiving as the Weekly Traveller’s
Number 1 Experience because we feel it is the most anticipated and adventurous
really putting you off your comfort zone!<o:p></o:p></div>

There may well be 48 days left for Christmas and the
Christmas lights have not yet been placed.
However, this is no valid reason For Blands Travel to not start
promoting our Christmas products. This
year is different… we are feeling that spirit tingling around the atmosphere..
We have not yet played those Christmas carols in the office but we have
certainly been hours on the pin board trying to see where we can take our
clients this festive season.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
If you enjoy the magic of Christmas markets and especially
the smell of those charcoaled sausages slowly cooked on German style barbecues…
then join us. Last year the team
travelled up to Granada to visit the Christmas market there, may I say the
pictures and tales are impressive.
Obviously the markets are not the proper Christmas markets you will see
in Dusseldorf, Germany. However, Spain’s
Christmas markets are a must see, it really gets you excited for Christmas.<o:p></o:p></div>

Christmas, as you will know delivers plenty of presents; the
other side to this is empty wallets. If
you still haven’t bought your Christmas presents this year, Blands Travel will
take you to two major shopping centres in the peninsula, Area Sur in Jerez and
Larios shopping centre . If you fancy
arranging a trip with friends or colleagues to shop till you drop, then just
let us know. We will take you there and
back in one piece but with plenty of shopping bags.<o:p></o:p></div>

<b><i>Trip to Umbrete<o:p></o:p></i></b></div>

This trip to Umbrete in Seville has been designed so that
you can gather a group of friends or even colleagues and get on a bus get your
quality Spanish ham, eat well, drink and get back on the bus. Jamones Pichilin offers the greatest cuts of
ham, I personally buy my “pata negra” from them for the last three years and I
must say that I still haven’t tried one better.

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I could ask
everyone in my Google circles or even my Facebook friends if they love to
travel or go on holiday.. and I can guarantee you that nearly everyone.. oh what
the heck.. everyone would reply to a resounding YES!</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Okay.. it may
be a yes… then why is it that there is on certain occasions a notion of
displeasure when a destination is crowded with tourists. This summer I
visited a few European cities whilst on a cruise holiday. My experience
within certain cities was of irritation and tension. I do not want to be
misinterpreted when I say this as this was on certain circumstances, but there
were some unpleasant moments which really do affect the visitor. Many
places around the world especially certain Islands in the Caribbean benefit
from what is called the “Tourist Dollar”. They believe that tourist
dollars are the icing on the cake on simple living. Their lifestyles
although wanted by many are basic and keep the locals self-sufficient. Their
tropical paradise is a more than decent proposition. However this
is not always the case, certain countries may well depend on the influx of
tourism, and it is for this case especially that resident and tourist cohesion
need to be materialised by the way of community- visitor programmes which
integrate tourism and the local population.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">As a local in
Gibraltar, I must say that certain initiatives are taken especially in the
summer months. A traditional culinary event is held in the month of June
called the Calentita night, here both locals and tourists enjoy the fine food
from all walks of life that inhabit in Gibraltar. Gibraltar is a small
community located in the Southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, it enjoys of more
than 300 days of sunshine and fantastic scenic settings… what can I say about
its people?.. Well, Gibraltarians are warming and will go out of their way to
make any daily visitor or tourist welcome to our fantastic destination. If you
ever decide to come and visit get in contact with us… we will happily assist
you with your travel requirements whilst you are here, plus you can visit the
famous apes or travel to Morocco… remember keep this in mind. Last Friday I
enjoyed lunch in Gibraltar.. then travelled to Spain to visit some wine bodegas
and finished the evening dining exquisitely in Morocco… we can deliver all this
within a day. Enjoy the best of three worlds with Blands Travel.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It is that time of the year again; Gibraltarians will soon
be dressing up in red and white.
Gibraltar’s National Day is celebrated annually on the 10th September
since 1992. The day commemorates Gibraltar's first sovereignty referendum
of 1967. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
This blog entry discovers why this emblematic day has become
a highlight in the calendar. Although
the main feature of the day has to be the release of 30,000 red and white balloons
which in essence resembles each Gibraltarian citizen, the day is also remembered
because of the community and its ability to come together as one. The vast amount of visitors who travel to
Gibraltar on National day are astonished to see everyone in their national colours. In the past I have personally seen some visitors
actually dressed up for the occasion… the day does symbolise Gibraltarian
people, however locals are more than happy when visitors join in the scheduled activities.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
If someone decides to visit Gibraltar on National day the
weekly traveller can guarantee that they will have a fantastic day, from the
early hours of the morning until the close of day the different activities and
events held throughout the Rock are immense.
As you make you your way to Casemates Square be ready to meet the swarm of
locals in red and white, enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and music then expect the
eagerly awaited release of the balloons.
After the morning has elapsed, you will notice that all restaurants and
bars will start filling up with hungry locals. Make your way to restaurants who
will be offering National Day menus…after your tasteful lunch why not wander
through town and see what events are being held adequate for you… it may just
be that there is some Karaoke fun awaiting….The evening’s highlight is the
firework display which marks the end of an eventful day.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

Please let us know about your National Day experience, send
in memorable photos of the day and get the chance to have your photo on our

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">One other point which is worth mentioning is the fact that
the website also acts as a form of directory and event driven handbook.
The site will be updated so that you can view all current and future events in
Gibraltar, we will also inform you of any changes in our travel guide.</span></div>
<br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<a href="http://www.blogger.com/null" name="_GoBack"></a><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="color: #1f497d; font-size: 16pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-themecolor: text2;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Malaga Exposed <o:p></o:p></span></span></i></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">When you think of Malaga your first impression always seems
to be the same, its where Spain’s favourite Costa del Sol starts.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>To a certain point I may have agreed with
this perception, until I recently visited the cultural city of Malaga, which
may well be the Costa del Sol’s capital city, but in no way whatsoever does
Malaga resemble other places down the coast.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">The Malaga Convention Bureau recently invited me to visit
Malaga on a two day visit of all its cultural and gastronomic places of
interest.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I was met by fantastic hosts
which really illustrated Malaga in a totally different way to what I perceived
it would be.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I remember Malaga to have
been a Coastal town with not much significance to what is highlighted in this
modern day.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The city has been
transformed into a vibrant well-orchestrated metropolitan place in which people
who visit Malaga are endured with diverse historical artefacts, buildings,
monuments and most of all museums.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I was
shown around the historical city centre and was amazed at the curiosity and resemblances
between Gibraltar and Malaga… I was told that Malaga did indeed have British
influences in the early 18<span style="font-size: x-small;">th</span> century.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>One small anecdote in which quite struck me
was to realise that the lower the baluster in peoples balconies were the
wealthier the family.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Although
insignificant to many these small well known secrets made my trip enjoyable and
informative.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">My overall objective out of the trip was to find how Malaga
could be attracted for its culture and gastrononmy.. however, this did not mean
I did not enjoy other fascinating activities planned.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I enjoyed a sail and fun outing in a
Catamaran at very reasonable prices which travelled throughout the coast and
enjoyed the panoramic scenery.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In the
afternoon a well-deserved visit to the Malaga Automobile Museum was the day’s
highlight… being shown the antique cars and having the chance of driving the
1964 Aston Martin driven in one of James Bond’s movies was simply out of this
world. Frankly I would recommend anyone to visit this fantastic event driven
location in Central Malaga. Soon after this unforgettable trip to the museum we
embarked on a gastronomical indulgence, we dined at the Bodega El Pimpi,
renowned for its set menu and typical tapas menu.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A sheer delightful evening accompanied with
fancy wine made the night extra special.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<b><i><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Why
would someone visit Gibraltar? The question answered<o:p></o:p></span></i></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Last week I
travelled to Malaga for a convention forum. I will let you know all about
it in my next entry. Well, whilst in Malaga I had the pleasure of meeting
some wonderful people who had direct links with the United Kingdom’s tourism
industry, what kind of grasped my attention was the fact that I was asked in
several occasions what there was in Gibraltar?</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">My initial
reaction was calm and persuasive, <i>Gibraltar has something for everyone</i>!
Blurted out in a sheer responsive manner. I then realised that my answer
to the question was short and simple. Should it have been?…. I quickly
realised that a more structural answer should have been given to someone who
indeed might be interested in travelling to Gibraltar. My reaction was to
quickly gather their attention, I asked them if they could be so kind as to ask
their initial question again… their response was positive and a huge sigh of
relief… they stated that they were indeed intrigued by my initial answer…. They
wanted to know more about Gibraltar… so there I went…. I told them about our
history and our vast range of activities.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">On my way back
to Gibraltar, in my vehicle without the aid of my music system available.. my
only thoughts were on why would visitors come to Gibraltar for their holiday
destination. The answer is quite simple when you think about all the
different kinds of amenities and activities in Gibraltar. We are privileged of
over 300 days of sunny days along with its beaches and its proximity to another
continent as is Morocco… it really is the gateway to the Mediterranean… The
shopping experience must also be highlighted, nevertheless, Gibraltar offers
much more than it has been noted for before… let Blands Travel offer you all
the different options whilst you visit a lustrous destination which does
essentially offer something for everyone.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">As for the
weekly traveller, keep us posted of all your travel arrangements, as we are
certain that we can offer you a chance of seeing a different side to Gibraltar!</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Ever wondered what it must feel when you first gaze at the
enormous limestone rock standing at the entrance to the Mediterranean? First time visitors to Gibraltar feel different
when they first set eyes on our Rock.
Locals are accustomed to the daily feature that is the Rock, but we
should remember that visitors to the Rock are amazed with such an impressive
feature which seems awkward with the surrounding setting. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
During my student years abroad in the United Kingdom I
remember exactly that feeling as I approached Gibraltar in the 11 50 arrival
from Gatwick, slight nerves and eagerness to arrive, then suddenly there it
was…<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It is for this same reason that this article concentrates on
the wonderful features that are available on our Upper Rock Nature
Reserve. Upon your visit to Gibraltar,
one cannot forget to visit the Upper Rock.
I recently travelled to the Reserve in search of a new experience, at
first I did not know myself what I would discover different. The
different sites as Apes Den and Great Siege tunnels have been vastly renovated
which can now accommodate and feature more historical artefacts.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The amount of historical information gathered from the tour
is immense; visitors to Gibraltar are guaranteed to learn about the many
fascinating stories in relation to our history.
Not only will visitors have the chance to visit the sites they will also
leave with a great recollection of history. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
To many Gibraltar is known for the Apes and its VAT shopping, however,
Gibraltar offers much more than it actually meets the eye. Visit Gibraltar for
its diverse historical knowledge, fascinating landscape views and most
importantly visit St Michaels Cave, which is a natural formed cave with its own
auditorium.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i>The most notable
features which are worth highlighting are;<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b>St Michaels Cave: <o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
A visit to this cave will certainly intrigue your vision and
mind. The chilling breeze as you enter
the cave is a relief from the outside warmth.
Once inside be amazed, it had been several years since I had last
visited the cave and I must say that it astounds me every time I visit. Its
formations of stalactite’s and stalagmites impress any visitor. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b>Apes Den:<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Since its renovation Apes den has become a functional
greeting place between the apes and the daily visitor. My experience was rather
impressive as the bus driver was attending to the visitors as he battled the Barbary macaques from entering the
bus, all in all a fun experience and even greater to see a smile on everyone’s face.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b>Great Siege Tunnels:<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I was quite impressed with the Great Siege Tunnels recent
renovation. New artefacts make these
impressive man made tunnels a more impressive feature within the Upper Rock. The tunnels are equipped with modern
equipment which certainly impressed a local visitor and from what I gathered my
touring group were also impressed.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In conclusion to my visit to the Upper Rock Nature reserve,
I must state that it is a pleasure promoting such a destination as Gibraltar,
full of history and vivid in culture, Gibraltar’s tourism product is certainly
heading in the right direction towards future visitor satisfaction.<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
Greetings Bloggers,</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you first read this title? Well, I will eagerly blog to you how exactly “The Essence of Morocco” was lived throughout a week at the Rock Hotel’s Khaima. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
From the initial moment I stepped into the Marquee I knew this was going to be an unforgettable experience. Was I wrong? Not at all, the aroma of the exotic spices, the soft texture of the marquees fabric and the friendly Dadas (expert Moroccan chefs) all created a first time experience in Gibraltar.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The event was organised by The Rock Hotel in association with La Maison Arabe, an hotel-riad in Marrakesh, Morocco. I had the chance of actually enjoying the different types of staged opportunities at the Khaima, experiencing the cookery courses was one of the highlights which was enjoyed by the many attendees. My overall comment on this is “exquisite”, the organisation, friendliness and final outcome was just superb. I would like to extend my gratitude as well as congratulating La Maison Arabe on their superb cooking courses.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Another experience which really brought the feel of Morocco into the Khaima was organised on the final evening. A traditional Moroccan wines and tapas event hosted by the Rock Hotel in conjunction with Les Celliers de Meknes and Domaine des Ouled Thaleb, both reputable wine companies in Morocco … this truly remarkable event is worth commenting as the night gathered a feel of what the Vineyards in Morocco are currently producing. The finest wines which originate from the slopes of the Atlas Mountain were tasted by the attendees on the night.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The evenings offered a different dining experience. A taste of Morocco at the Rock offered the chance for all guests to try out the poolside buffet dinners with menus chosen or influenced by the renowned chefs (dada’s), dishes which certainly got my taste buds going as the intense and rich flavours were simply wonderful. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i><b>Final statement</b></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The Moroccan week was an all-round success and will certainly set a precedent in Gibraltar’s gastronomy, we have become accustomed to the Spanish side of gastronomy which is vivid and delightful, however, Moroccan dining has not yet been fully established in Gibraltar. The future is optimistic for Moroccan dining because I believe that after this superb event, a general interest from the local public and visitors to Gibraltar has been generated… I simply cannot wait for next year.</div>
